Writer’s Sanctuary – Hove
“Apple Tree Cabins has transformed the back of our garden into a writer’s sanctuary.
Our growing family had filled up every corner of our house and I desperately needed my own space and a place where I could work in peace.
I met with Martin, and we discussed the space and what was needed.
I wanted a room that could be used all year round, as well as a separate storage section that had its own access. The space, which didn’t possess a right angle, had to function well and also look good within the garden environment.
Martin was professional, kind, polite and tidy. He asked clever questions and helped solved problems I hadn’t thought about – such as internet access, lighting and storage. For the exterior, Martin suggested a beautiful local timber and a living roof. Inside there is a gorgeous timber floor and some very clever ‘floating’ wooden shelves, now full of books.
What he has built has exceeded every expectation. Without a doubt, my new workspace is the best room in the whole house – the rest of the family are most jealous!
Virginia Woolf was quite right when she said, “A woman must have… a room of her own if she is to write fiction.” (A Room of One’s Own (1929)) She would have loved Apple Tree Cabins. ”

Cabin In The Woods – Ashdown Forest
The client wanted to indulge the kids’ storybook fantasy and create a magical cabin in the woods. Somewhere to get away from it all, be off grid and immersed in nature and the peaceful surroundings.
This tiny dwelling needed to be used for storage with a fridge and running water. The entire structure was made from carefully sourced, reclaimed materials including sea defence sleepers.
The exterior includes a snug for sheltering from the rain and log storage for the fire pit. There was also space to include a bug hotel offering a sustainable wildlife stack. A safe haven for the little guys!
“Martin is both extremely creative and reassuringly capable. I feel like we have created a work of art as well as a functional dwelling. It is a rare combination to find someone who is able to juggle the practical and aesthetic so perfectly!”

Wooden Cabin Garden Guest Room – Brighton
4 x 3.5 m – The brief – extra living space for terraced house in Hove for guests to use as an office and hang out for son and his friends.
“Martin from Apple Tree Cabins is amazing. As a person who is currently renovating my home and garden I was recommended Martin to build a room at the end of my garden. Having seen in person the work he has completed at his own property I was very impressed by how easily he was to communicate with and the vision he understood I had for my own garden building.
The result is that it looks amazing and has added value to my home as is an additional bedroom/reception room. Martin was extremely personable and committed to completing the best possible job within the agreed budget; whilst following my wishes and preferences. He was always punctual, hardworking, reliable and very easy to communicate with. Martin provides the perfect package of being a skilled craftsman with a creative and thoughtful mind! Thank you Martin! “

Garden Workshop Restoration – Ashdown Forest
The original structure of the garden workshop was stripped back to the bare bones. As the main house is a listed building it had to be carefully restored and mirror the footprint of the original building. The entire roof structure was rebuilt and each beam sourced and replaced like for like.
The inside was then damp proofed and a new concrete floor laid, embedded with coloured glass pebbles sourced by the client.
The walls were insulated and clad with oak panels. A long reclaimed butler type sink was installed and a bespoke copper tap made.
“Working with Martin has been fantastic. He has restored the potting shed beautifully. His impeccable attention to detail and craftsmanship means he has created a stunning space, way beyond our expectations! “
